What is Free Subscription?

The Celtic Myth Podshow is a Free Podcast

When you download the 25 minute (approx.) Episode, you will be downloading an MP3 file that contains 25 minutes of entertainment and information. You will receive a story or tale from the earliest legends of the Celts that will over time build up into a library of powerful stories that bring you the heart of the Celtic spirit. There is no charge for this and we hope there never will be - we provide these stories because we love them!

What is a Podcast?

A podcast is an audio (sound) file that you can download from the internet on a regular basis. It''s kind of like an episodic radio programme that you can choose when you listen to. Most people are familiar with music MP3s - the podcast is no different. Except that you can have a subscription to it that ensures you never miss an episode and it will be downloaded automatically for you by your "podcatching" software.

Do I need and special equipment to listen?

It''s more than likely that you already have all the equipment that you''ll need!

A computer with an internet connection and a sound card is the minimum requirement. PCs, Macs and most Linux machines have the ability to playback MP3 format sound files. You have another option if you own an MP3 player, like an iPod. The show can be transferred onto it and enjoyed from there. The iPhone and other devices that can connect to iTunes can download and play the Episode directly on that device. Neat, huh?

Will it work on my computer/mp3 player?

Yes. Plain and simple.

If you are running a version of Linux that is not MP3 enabled then you will no doubt know exactly how to enable it to play the shows that you receive, or you will still be able to transfer them to your MP3 player.

RSS Feeds and Subscriptions

This clever piece of technology is enabled through the use of RSS (Really Simple Syndication) software. For the technically minded, you can find a good explanation in Wikipedia. A feed is another name for an RSS file that ensures that it regularly ''feeds'' you with updated content. What it means in practice is that once you have copied the feed address into your Podcatcher or clicked on the correct Subscribe button, then you have no more to do other than check you Podcatcher software occasionally and receive the new Episodes. Couldn''t be easier!

Podcatchers

OK, so what is a Podcatcher? A Podcatcher is a program that you can run on your computer that checks the internet feeds that you have added to it. So, you might have our show and many others lined up in it. You run the program, update your feeds and bingo - you can see at a glance if there are any new episodes to download. For the PC, the best software that we have found is Juice which is available here. For the Mac, you do do no better than iTunes, which if you don''t already have it, can be found here. For Linux, I use gPodder under Gnome or KDE. Get this from your normal repository.
