http://www.thisissomerset.co.uk reports that  the Hollywood team behind a blockbuster that could see the myths and legends of Glastonbury on the big screen have been visiting the town.  Producers of Glastonbury Isle of Light say it will be a historical epic that shines a light on an untold story.  But they revealed that the film could end up being shot not in Somerset’s mountains green, but in the rather dustier steppes of Kazakhstan, because that is where most of the development cash will be coming from.

The film will link the town’s legend of Joseph of Arimathea, who is supposed to have brought the Holy Grail to Glastonbury, with Iron Age Britain resistance warrior Caractacus.

Glastonbury Isle of Light is listed as ‘in development’ on the movie website IMDb and the Galatia Films team behind it that looks like something of a Who’s Who of Hollywood with films on their individual CVs that include the latest Star Wars films, King Arthur and Last of the Mohicans.

Weta Workshop, the special effects team behind Lord of the Rings, the upcoming Hobbit trilogy and Avatar, is also included.

No actors have yet been signed up however executive producer is Nuala Barton, mother of actress and designer Mischa Barton.

Last week Nuala and producer and writer Daniel McNicoll visited the region and met Somerset Tourism Association and Visit Somerset, together with local politicians.

Visit Somerset vice-chairman John Turner said tourism bosses are proud to be associated with the project, which they hope will bring greater domestic and international tourism opportunities to Glastonbury.

This really is an incredibly exciting time in Somerset’s future and Visit Somerset is now right at the heart of this incredible project,”

he said.

Daniel McNicoll said he has followed in the footsteps of JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis as he works on the Glastonbury Isle of Light.

“I fell in love with the Glastonbury-Somerset legends, in my mind they are at the centre of what all great legends are about: strong heroes, larger than life characters, noble events and valiant deeds,”
