Aaron Boland of the Welsh Daily Post reports that the importance of the smaller eisteddfodau to the success of our national festivals has been highlighted in his column on numerous occasions, and he makes no apology for pursuing the issue yet again.

Cymdeithas Eisteddfodau Cymru (Association of Welsh Eisteddfodau) was established by Dr Aled Lloyd Davies and others 10 years ago to support and promote the 120 smaller eisteddfodau across Wales.


Thanks to grant aid, two part-time officers work 22 hours a week throughout the year, always available to help eisteddfod officials. They were available to attend eisteddfod committees with a view to providing guidance and any help needed.

It is sad that the financial support from the Arts Council of Wales has been withdrawn this year, because of the demands of the 2012 Olympics, the effect being that only one of the two officers is still in place, based in South Wales.
