Contribution to the Site
Kim Thompsett is a creative Fairy musician who has graciously allowed us to play her evocative track, I Will Be A Stranger on the second part of our Samhain Holiday Special, SP05b. We also have a track called Lords & Ladies that appears on our Yule Holiday Special, SP06. These tracks comes from her album, Songs From the Uglee Meadow. The artwork for her new album which has been especially comissioned from Esther Remmington, the vibrant Fairy Artist who has already been a Contributor to our show and site. We are also grateful for Kim allowing us to play her beautiful Arthurian piece, Many a Knight, on our Autumn Equinox 2009 Arthurian Holiday Special, SP14.
Biography
Kim Thompsett is a musician and songwriter living and working in the South East of England. She plays guitar, flute, native American flute and zither. Her songs have an escapist quality which evokes the England of old with hints of Celtic, medieval and the classic folk artists of the ‘60’s and 70’s.
The album Songs from the Uglee Meadow is inspired by a serene and beautiful place in East Sussex called the Uglee Meadow. Featuring 10 original tracks graced by the talents of Dave Kent on guitar, Will Summers (Circulus, Princes in the Tower) on crumhorns, flute and recorder, Philip G Martin (Drohne) on hurdy gurdy and pipes, Sarah Tadros on fiddle and Ian Tullet (ex-Ugenix) on percussion, the album flows among rushing streams and under shady willows, dancing around the oak trees in the twilight mists and meandering in a somewhat timeless fashion up onto the high and lonely moors for a rather epic finale. It's all been mastered on some rather clever analog gadgetry to give it a really warm sound. I'm releasing it on my own label, Meniscus Hump Records.
The CD package also contains a pull-out booklet designed and painted in fabulous watercolours by the wonderful fantasy artist, Esther Remmington which echoes perfectly the flow and essence of the songs. It's all come together so beautifully with everything slotting into place at just the right time, it really feels like there's a magical positivity surrounding the whole project, so I hope that comes across.
Right now it is just available from my MySpace page by clicking on the BUY IT NOW button. In a few day's time it will be available from Amie Street (http://amiestreet.com/music/kim-thompsett/) for download. It will also be available in a few weeks on all the major download sites.
Airplay so far includes BBC Radio 6 and Hastings Rock, as well as tracks featured on the Samhain and upcoming Christmas editions of the Celtic Myth Podshow (www.celticmythpodshow.com). There's an interview planned soon for the Spanish site, Nuevas Musicas, with several other exciting developments in collaboration with other publications coming up - all will be revealed! (Sorry, by that I don't mean Playboy! :)
Gigs are starting early in the year with the first one (just a duo due to licensing restrictions) very locally at the Standard Inn in Rye on Jan 29th. The band for next year is also coming together with a superb and very charismatic cellist (Naomi) now in the line-up and of course the odd guest musicians popping up on occasion from amongst the album contributors.
